FAQs
I am told my taxes will increase. Is this true?
Various revenues from sources such as utilities and mortgage taxes would
be collected by the village instead of the Town of Brookhaven. We also will have the ability to reduce costs by negotiating
lower rates with certain service providers. The total tax bill will also depend upon the services the residents want
and don't want. In fact, your property taxes may actually decrease. Each resident will be given a budget PRIOR to
any public vote.
I don't live in Farmingville. Why should I support this initiative?
The issues plaguing Farmingville are no longer unique to Farmingville.
It is common knowledge that these issues also are faced by the residents of Holtsville and Lake Ronkonkoma.
Will I lose any services currently provided by the Town of Brookhaven?
No. The incorporated village remains part of the town and continues to
utilize and benefit from all services currently provided by the Town of Brookhaven. However, as a village, we are not mandated
to use all of the town's services. We have the option to select our own providers if we can negotiate a more favorable contract.
How was the name of the proposed village of Oak Hills decided?
The name of the village was voted on by the residents
within the proposed village boundaries, who attended several public meetings.
